In flipping through the current edition of Wired, I tore out an ad featuring the singer, John Legend. The subtitle, "Better Men. Better World" caught my eye. One of the goals of this blog is to provide guideposts for better living, mostly for men, but I suspect many women read these posts and care just as much too.
GQ established the Gentlemen's Fund to commemorate their 50th anniversary and to also further a modern man's desire to be an agent of change. The charities they've chosen to benefit from your contribution support five principles essential to men.
- Opportunity. Career Gear helps low-income men get and keep jobs through career counseling, interview coaching, business clothing, and job support.
- Health. Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids (DIFFA) has been one of the country’s largest supporters of both direct care for people living with AIDS/HIV and preventative education for those at risk for 23 years.
- Education. A Better Chance is the national resource for recruiting, identifying, and developing leaders among young people of color in the United States.
- Environment. Global Green is an international environmental organization that uses outreach, education, and advocacy to combat climate change, eliminate weapons of mass destruction, and provide safe drinking water to those who lack access to it.
- Justice. Justice for Children International speaks for itself.
I can't think of two more disparate reading audiences than Wired and GQ, but this time they came together with a common voice: to give men a chance to create a better world.
